TB-CAPT hosts a Satellite Session at ASLM LabCoP 2022

This week, from October 11-14, TB-CAPT Dissemination Lead, African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), will host the sixth edition of their annual event the ASLM Laboratory Systems Strengthening Community of Practice (LabCoP). This year’s hybrid event will be held online and at Southern Sun Cape Sun Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa.

ASLM LabCoP aims to foster south-south knowledge exchange and joint learning by linking together designated representatives from national ministries of health from across Africa with global experts. The topics covered during this year’s event include monitoring and evaluation, scale-up of HIV viral load testing, tuberculosis, and COVID-19.

On the second day of the event, October 12, the TB-CAPT consortium will host a two-part Satellite Session titled “Scaling up access to near POC/POC molecular testing services for TB and drug-resistant TB.” The session is organized in collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership and USAID and will run from 6.30-8 pm Central African Time.

During the first part of the session, TB-CAPT’s Dr Vinzeigh Leukes (Clinical Trial Manager, The Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics) and Dr Chad Centner (Investigator, University of Cape Town) will each give a 10-minute presentation about their work in TB-CAPT. These presentations will be followed by a 10-minute panel discussion moderated by their TB-CAPT colleague Dr Marguerite Massinga Loembé (Senior Science Manager, ASLM).

The second session will follow a similar model, including three short presentations and a panel discussion, featuring a collaboration between the Stop TB Partnership and USAID.
